At the first ALT training I attended this year we were talking about students, their behavior and how to motivate them. Another ALT asked if we knew our students names. The generalized reply was ‘not the good students’. We could all name one or two students who were constant behavior problems and yet we couldn’t name many of the others. The hard working diligent student who rarely causes difficulty in the classroom often goes unrecognized. We need to reward the good students. I have thought about this many times since then and when I came across this list I decided it was something that I had to share. Listed below are many ways to praise a student and their work.
